Coronavirus Shelter-in-Place & Stay-at-Home Orders on Google Maps

Interactive map of U.S. States, Counties & Cities with Stay at Home*, Shelter in Place* (dark orange) or Non-essential Business Closure (dark yellow) Orders in effect**

* IMPORTANT: While the terms "Shelter-In-Place" or "Stay-At-Home" are not precisely accurate, they are the terms being most widely used for jurisdictions where all but essential activities outside the home are currently outlawed. In general, the exceptions include essential workers, medical necessity, getting groceries and recreational activities such as running or walking where at least 6 feet social distance is maintained. Check each jurisdiction's official government website for particular inclusions, exclusions or other guidance.

** The map shows where Stay at Home, Shelter in Place and Non-essentional Business Closure orders are CURRENTLY in effect or IMMINENT according to official government websites or reputable news sources.

If you have information on a particular U.S. geographic area (e.g. state, city, county, specified radius, etc.) where a COVID-19 Coronavirus Stay at Home, Shelter in Place or Non-essential Business Closure orders or similar specific geography, please leave a comment below and we will add it to this map.

In addition to U.S. States, Counties and Cities under a Shelter in Place order, the map also shows Native American territories under Shelter in Place orders.

To aid in understanding jurisdictions, use the checkboxes in the lower left of the map to also show city limits, townships and county labels.

For broader context, here is the Coronavirus dashboard maintained by John Hopkins University:

There are also a number of informative, authoritative US and worldwide maps related to the Covid19 Coronavirus found on the COVID19Bay.info and Maps Mania websites.

COVERAGE NOTES:
  • US coverage includes Counties in all 50 states plus Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa
"Also show US city limits" draws all incorporated cities and towns in the United States and its territories and possessions
"Also show US townships" draws all minor civil divisions (MCDs) (these are often townships)

OTHER NOTES:
  • The Search places box uses a standard Google Maps geocoding engine, therefore you can type street addresses, road names, points of interest, and GPS coordinates (see * above) to see what county that location is part of
  • Many of the map layers from which this information is extracted are very large, so it may take several seconds for all of the map layers to finish drawing
  • Because the map layers are large, boundaries will not be shown if you are zoomed out too far
  • Note that typing an address will zoom in the map very close, whereas typing a city or county by itself will show you a map with a wider view
  • Disclaimer: While the number of decimals in the latitude and longitude displayed for the map marker imply a positional accuracy of within a few feet, note that Google Maps is not inherently that accurate, and therefore this tool should not be used for legal purposes or anything beyond entertainment value.

  1. This is great Randy, and was pleased to see the map including Canada in the "For broader context, here is the Coronavirus dashboard maintained by John Hopkins University" but disappointed to not see on your map that Canada has the "Shelter-in-Place & Stay-at-Home Orders" right across our country. I sure wish at least all bordering states would take heed that this is a very serious situation and we all need to be doing our part.

    1. I commend Canada on that action; I simply had to take the decision for time sake to keep this particular tool to U.S. coverage, as this in itself I can barely keep up with.

    2. I was able to add Canada, as I agree it sends an important message. Thank you.

The Territory of the U.S. Virgin Islands is also under a Stay at Home Executive Order issued by the Governor. See: https://www.vi.gov/governor-bryan-orders-residents-to-stay-at-home-non-essential-businesses-to-end-in-person-operations/
